Kidman Surfboards!

Those above are surfboards made by hand in Andrew Kidman's shed in Australia- a Splice, a Tigertoe and a classic fish. Andrew makes very clean very functional surfboards, but he doesn't make a lot and  he's not particularly keen on marketing himself, so they have been far from available. Until now, at least sort of. We've got a good functional and affordable way to get boards up to the U.S. and Andrew   is ready to shape a few for interested parties. Board Of The Week- 5' 7" Simster

This here is a sparkling new Simster that I've not been trying very hard to sell, but I have one of my own and this needs to go. Back in the heady early days of the Simmons discoveries, the initial excitement over the performance of the (now) classic mini Sim immediately sparked a need to see what the design could be moulded to, and this was an astonishingly good variant. Still wide enough for planing action at 21", but with the tail stepped down courtesy of the wing to a more turning friendly width, but still within Lindsay Lord's proscribed sizing for clean water release. The twin keels are augmented by a trailing fin the result isn't so much a shortboard style Simmons as a whole new bag. These boards are fast and have that feeling of lightness and flight that a mini Sim gives, but with whole new turning radius action- they can be thrown around like the most high performance of shortboards then accelerate out of the business like a true Simmons. Immediately a favourite with the young Windansea crew, they've always seemed to me the important link from Simmons to Tomo, but I take this stuff way to seriously. Neal Purchase Jnr

Board Of The Week- 6'7" Aleutian Juice MPegg

Finally getting the available surfboards for sale organised, cataloged and listed. Here's the first and it's a beauty of a Parmenter. 6'7" x 21" x 2.65" MPegg single fin, pale avocado tint and comes with a Parmenter templated raked single fin. This disc is no straight retro replica though, it's definitely got the genes of the boards MP rode at Kirra, but built with the knowledge from decades of refinement in board design to help  trim the experimental weirdness and keep the elements that fundamentally work. Wide point forward with straighter rails for projection and drive in everything from thigh high mush to a hollow screamer, and those rails are low, soft and rolled so they avoid the twitchiness hull rails are prone to but the thickness is foiled so they don't feel fat and slow. The bottom shifts from a convex hull-y nose to a flat v-panel in the tail so the board planes beautifully and is still responsive. It's a lot of subtlety and design history in a very clean package, and it's an extremely fun board. This one is $850 with the fin, or we can do a custom to what specs you feel will work for you. Spirit Of Akasha & Morning Of The Earth Limited Boxsets

This is pretty cool- in the merch stack for the Spirit Of Akasha tour that arrived (late) from Australia, there were the last 2 limited box sets for the films. Both are sealed and and fabulously deluxe- the Akasha box contains the double soundtrack CD, the MOTE redux vinyl, the double Akasha vinyl, a 7" single with bonus tracks, a fantastic 120 pg photo book, a t-shirt and a poster! The MOTE box meanwhile features the original film soundtrack (which holds up seriously well) as well as the  MOTE Reimagined version, both on CD and vinyl, a 7" single, a 120pg book with Alby's original images from the film as well as a shirt and a poster. Psychic Migrations

This is premiering tonight in Newport Beach and will be henceforth out in the world and so worth the effort to see. RT is a scholar and a gentleman as well as a bloody good filmmaker, Burch is a complete goof and Ozzy Wright a madman, but all 3 are epic surfers. Definitely better than me, probably better than you. Morning Of The Earth Soundtrack

Alby Falzon's 1971 opus 'Morning Of The Earth' absolutely resonates for a certain sector of the surf culture (and the simple fact you're looking at this blog means you're probably part of that sector), it's a defining moment and to this day an inspiration. Full of absolutely iconic moments- MP's cutback- and a vision of what surf culture was (and could be) in gentler, more considered times it stands up to repeated viewings to this day. Integral to the film is the soundtrack, and we're absolutely stoked to be able to make it available in the US for the first time. As a quite brilliant bonus, the original soundtrack is packaged with the Reimagined version which is the original covered by contemporary acts including the Windy Hills, Bonnie Prince Billy, Tom Curren, The Goons Of Doom, Pond and Mick Turner amongst others. Epic. Available as limited double vinyl for $35, regular double CD for $15 or deluxe double CD packaged with a book of Alby's original images for $25. There's also copies of the movie in PAL format for $25. 6'2" Parmenter Channeled MPegg For Sale

Mad awesome! 6'2"x20.75"x2.5", MPegg outline with 6 channels and a widow maker fin setup! What's not visible in a simple photo, especially my chimp-with-an-instamatic style photos, are how good Dave Parmenter is at the whole surfboard shaping business. The foil is amazing, the wide point is forward and just standing there it looks fast, there seems to be a bit more rocker than the standard MPegg and there's a bit of a beak nose rather than the more rounded old school MP style. Epic board, beautiful Waterman's Guild tint work and i's here and available for a very reasonable $800 because it was a custom, but the customer decided that it's not sky blue, or at least not the sky blue he envisioned. (Important custom board note- either give your glasser a colour chip if you want something specific, or go with what their fume addled colour mind comes up with. I'm spoiled with Waterman's Guild as they do insanely high quality work which counts more than colour for me- I usually just say 'red' or 'yellow' or whatever and let it happen)

Stoked! The boards are a 5'10" Golden Mean Machine shaped by Daniel Thomson, tri furthers boxes and XTR foam, and a 6'7" single fin MPegg shaped by Dave Parmenter with a juicy Tuareg purple tint. 650 pounds each. The fins are the new Parmenter singles, template a blend of Brewer & McCoy, 6.5" high, 5.5" base and hand made and foiled in Hawaii by Brian Bills. Even in the midst of all the Kidman tour chaos (and more on that soon, we have CDs, LPs and DVDs finally!) we manage to bring you some superb wave sliding equipment. Fresh off the plane, Mackie sidecuts and they are going to be complete rockets- EPS, 5 box system and so clean. The pictured 6'6" has sold but there's another one coming and the 6' is available- $850. As a bonus, this stunner of a Parmenter widow maker was also collected while blasting through Central California. Beautiful old school diamond tail, pretty thick and with glassed on side bites and a really stunning tint. It's a super good deal at $800, and this shape works so well from a few feet to overhead, it's a seriously good addition to any real quiver.
